Historie
The Black Rose complex of buildings consists of two buildings: land-registry number 853 Na Příkopě 12 and land-registry number 894 Panská 4, Prague 1 - Nové Město, connected by an arcade which expands upwards to two floors of galleries. The building Na Příkopě is from the 1840s and is distinguished by an interesting romantic façade according to the design of Jan David Frenzl. The alterations to the interiors are from the year 1880 and are by Josef Fanta. In 1932 a vestibule with shopping and operational spaces consisting of through Arcade from Na Příkopě street to Panská street was built according to the project of the important functionalist architect Oldřich Tyl. One point of particular interest is the interior of the Black Rose Arcade with a glass-concrete vault and galleries.
The object is a cultural monument protected by law and entered in the state list of building monuments as an important illustration of inter-war modern architecture.
In the year 1996 the reconstruction of these buildings began, the aim of which was the elimination of the undesirable state both in terms of construction and operation, renewing all the worn-out elements of these buildings, increasing the capacity of all utility distribution networks and modernising the equipment of these premises in order that they comply not only with current standards and regulations, but in order that they should serve for several more decades and also correspond with the exclusivity of the locality in the centre of the capital
The Black Rose Arcade has thus turned into a true shopping centre which began to fully serve visitors in November 1998. There are brand-name shops on all floors, café and restaurants. The Black Rose Shopping Centre has thus become a sought-after centre for shops and services, both for the inhabitants of Prague and for its domestic and foreign visitors, and it has become the seat of renowned firms.
